Christmas Cactus

I have a few Christmas Cactus, some of them are over 10 years old. I keep them in my greenhouse whenever they are not blooming. I have taken a number of legs (arms - branches - ) and started new plants. The transplants do not die, but they do not grow either. I assume I am doing something wrong. What type of soil should I be using? I need to repot some of my older plants and do not want to kill them. I know they are not actually Cactus, so I do not know if I should be using Cactus blend soil. I have been using regular fertilizer. Is there anything special I should be using. I spoke with one person that told me they could get their Christmas Cactus to bloom two or three times a year by keeping it in the dark and then fertilizing it. All comments will be welcome.

Xmas Cactus

I have been growing xmas cactus for many year. The solar Gem Greenhouse is the ideal place to keep them, as they do not like direct sun, but do like light.

Soil - one part a good organic potting soil - one part sand - two parts peat.

Fertilize - high in potassium. once a month from the time the last flowers falls off, until the first buds show (usually around October),

Repotting - they LIKE to be rootbound. If repotting, do not rip open the root ball and only go one size bigger on the new pot.

Budding - the ideal temperature is around 50 -60 F. Keep in complete darkness at least 12 hours per day.
