Growing Tomatoes
We are in our second year with our 12 foot Solar Greenhouse. We absolutely enjoy it. This year I started my tomatoes and peppers from seeds in January / February. I planted two larger kinds or tomatoes(Early Girl and Zorba) and two kinds of cherry tomatoes. I have had cherry tomatoes since mid-May and the first rip Early Girl in Mid-June. During the recent hot period, where we got outside temperatures of around 100 degrees, the tomatoes really took off, as well as the peppers and cucumbers. (even the roses I have in the greenhouse went wild with buds and blooms). What has happened is that I am getting lots and lots of tomatoes and the plants continue to grow, but I am not getting new blooms. What do I do to encourage new blossoms? I am not having the same problem with the peppers. They keep blooming and blooming. I have started picking off some of the new blooms, because the branches are over loaded. A note to anyone that is thinking of getting a solar Gem - get the largest one you have room for. We wish we have gotten the 15 foot, as out 12 foot is really full. Debbie

There are a couple things you can try to get your tomato plant to start blooming. Cut away all of the old growth. This should get your plant to shot out new shoots. If you are growing in a pot, make sure there is enough soil. When you water, some of the soil drains off. If this does not work, try starving the plant for a few days. NO water. Wait until the leaves start to droop. Then give it a healthy drink. As a thank you it should bloom.
Bigger Pots!
Yes, we had the same problem with lack of blooms until we let the pots/soil dry out for two days; leaves turned yellow and crinkled up. Then we soaked them with water and new blooms have emerged! What we need to do next time is to put the plants in a larger pot with more of the stalk lying horizontal under the potting soil. Right now they are in 2gal pots.
